Paint Protection Film (PPF) is a thermoplastic urethane film applied to painted surfaces of a new or used vehicle to protect the paint from stone chips, bug stains, and minor abrasions. It's virtually invisible and doesn't change the appearance of your vehicle. Modern PPF products feature self-healing properties, meaning minor scratches disappear with heat application.
The longevity of PPF depends on several factors, including the quality of the film, installation expertise, and maintenance. At Car Cafe, we use premium XPEL PPF products that come with a 10-year warranty against yellowing, cracking, peeling, and delamination. With proper care, our PPF installations can protect your vehicle for a decade or more.
Yes, when professionally installed and removed, PPF should not damage your vehicle's paint. Our technicians are trained in proper removal techniques that involve careful heating of the film to loosen the adhesive, followed by gentle peeling. In fact, the paint underneath the film often remains in better condition than exposed areas because it's been protected from environmental damage.
The cost of PPF installation varies based on several factors, including the size of your vehicle, the coverage area (partial vs. full), the complexity of your vehicle's body panels, and the quality of PPF selected. At Car Cafe, we offer customized packages starting from partial front-end coverage to complete vehicle protection. We provide detailed, transparent quotes after evaluating your specific vehicle and requirements. Contact us for a personalized estimate.
Maintaining PPF is straightforward. We recommend:
Regular washing with pH-neutral car wash soap
Avoiding harsh chemicals, abrasive polishes, or waxes containing petroleum distillates
Removing bird droppings, tree sap, or bug splatter promptly
Waiting 7 days after installation before washing your vehicle
Using microfiber towels for drying to prevent scratching
We provide detailed care instructions after installation to ensure your PPF remains in optimal condition.
Installation time varies based on the coverage area and vehicle size. Partial installations (like hood, bumper, and mirrors) typically take 1-2 days, while full vehicle protection can take 2-3 days. We prioritize quality over speed to ensure perfect installation, which includes thorough surface preparation, precise cutting, and meticulous application. We'll provide a specific timeframe for your vehicle when you schedule your appointment.
PPF and ceramic coating serve different purposes. PPF provides physical protection against rock chips, scratches, and environmental damage, while ceramic coating offers chemical protection that enhances gloss, repels water, and makes cleaning easier. Neither is "better" - they're complementary. For ultimate protection, we often recommend a combination of PPF on high-impact areas and ceramic coating over the entire vehicle, including the PPF itself. Our consultants can help determine the best solution for your specific needs.
